Soaking roots in water first?

Hello,
I am looking at transferring my philodendrons and pothos to semi hydro from soil. I read somewhere else that the soil roots will die off and will be replaced by water roots? They recommended soaking the roots in water for a couple weeks after removing them from soil to allow the plant a chance to develop water roots and to allow the decaying soil roots to be rinsed away when you change the soaking water every couple of days before transplanting into the leca? What do you think of that?
Thank you!
Julie

Soaking Roots Before Transplanting
by: Jeree

Yes, I agree that soaking roots in water before transplanting is a good idea. Changing water very couple of days will be necessary.
More important is creating an even bablance of water and air at the roots after transplanting. Roots nee air as much as they need water to grow.
I hope you plan on using a grow pot that has drainage holes in the bottom.
